Wednesday

Homework:
Work on some of the math posted to the right. Understand it.

Today in class:
We have been learning about electricity all week.
We learned about how an electric circuit works, and how electricity flows.
We build circuits both on the computer and using real wires and batteries.
We learned how electricity is generated using magnets.
We looked at the different ways electricity is generated in Ontario.
We learned about the Powerwall, a new invention from Tesla Motors that could change that way electricity is used in homes (ask your child all about it, it's pretty great).
We looked at the history of electricity, the reading is on the right.

This afternoon is our Art and Science fair. Students from grades 5,6,7,8 will be displaying their projects in the gym.

The site we're using in the computer lab today can be found here.

Lab Today
Build these circuits. All circuits below use the 2 volt battery and the 2 ohm bulb.

1. A simple circuit with a 2 volt battery and a 2ohm bulb.

2. Two bulbs with one battery. What happens to the light? Why?

3. Two batteries, two bulbs. What happens now? Why?

4. Two batteries, one bulb. Now what happens? Why?

5. Let's see why. Attach an ameter.

6. Try the ameter on this one.

7. Now things will get much more complicated. Build this series circuit. Use an ameter with each bulb. What do you think will happen when you turn it on?

8. Using our knowledge from yesterday, how can you make the circuit above turn on. Use only 1 battery, 6 bulbs, 6 ammeters, and wires. GOOD LUCK!!
The answer is here for checking your work.
