What students should be working on ongoing at home:

Human Rights

In every case, someone was mistreated. Which human rights were not respected in each story.

1. Sandy's house was broken in to and her collection of Beanie Boos was stolen. Sandy was certain it was the Alice, from across the street, who broke into her house and stole her Beanie Boos. Sandy called the police and told them so, Alice was arrested by the police and sent to jail for three months.

2. Mandy recorded a video of herself. In the video she was reading some poetry that she'd written. She didn't want anyone to see the videos, but she recorded them because she was practicing saying the poems out loud. Her sister's friends were over, they found the video, and posted them online.

3. Katniss' father works in a coal mine in District 12. He was offered a job as a fisherman, a job he wants to take. The job is in district 4 and the Capitol refused to allow him to move. He must stay in district 12.

4. Andy is a Canadian citizen. He travels to another country on vacation and is mistakenly arrested for a crime he didn't commit. He is locked up and not allowed to see a lawyer.

5. Cindy and Mindy have been dating for several years. They are ready to get married, Mindy even knows the dress she wants to buy. The go to city hall to register for marriage and are told by the official there that they are not allowed to be married because of a new law that was recently made. Cindy and Mindy argue with the official, who says that the law is the law and there is nothing they can do.

6. Randy is born to a loving family. As a tiny little baby his parents are told that it has already been decided by school officials that Randy will not be attending school. He will be sent to work in a factory that screws the little tops onto the end of toothpaste tubes.

7. Candy is a excellent baker. She heads to a bakery to apply for a job but is told that the bakery only hires bakers who are under 35 years old. Candy is 60 and the bakery tells her they don't want any old people working with them.

8. Penny wrote a beautiful song. She made a little music video and put it up on Youtube. Kenny downloaded the song and didn't change a thing. He also downloaded 12 other songs by 12 other artists like this. He put them together on a CD and titled it Great Aritsts of Youtube. The CD sold pretty well and Kenny made a bit of money. No money made it to Penny or any of the other singers. In facts, Penny didn't know about the CD at all until a friend told her.

9. Lenny wrote a beautiful song. He made a little music video and put in on Youtube. Benny listened to the song a ton. He loved it. Benny learned to play the guitar like Lenny and he learned all the words to Lenny's song. Benny recorded his own version of Lenny's song and put it on CD with a bunch of other songs that Benny had written himself. The CD sold pretty well and Benny kept all the money.

10. Denny was born and raised in Canada. Denny married a Russian girl and had a happy life. He was great hockey player and went to play for team Russia for the 2016 Winter Olympics. He'd grown to love the country of Russia and wanted to make his wife happy. The Canadian government was so angry with him they took away his Canadian citizenship and Denny no longer had any country he could call home.

11. Ed made a large sign that said "The Conservative Government Must Go".  He stood on the sidewalk in downtown Toronto holding the sign. The police took his sign away saying it was inappropriate to speak against the government.

12. Was there a single human right, any at all, that was respected in the movie the Hunger Games? If so, which ones?
